|Interest=During my PhD, I realaized that academic publishing is in dire straits. A strong publication bias leads to cherry-picking of the data, while leaving a lot of results – that may potentially contradict a researcher’s hypothesis or weaken it – in the drawer. Even when the data does get published, it’s mostly published in the final processed format of the text or graphs. This may be convenient to read by humans but not by the machines. However, the amount of produced data goes far beyond the capacity of a human brain to digest it, let alone to synthesize the scattered pieces into coherent knowledge about the nature. Computers are potentially capable of doing that, but we do not provide research data in a suitable format.
To address that, I collaborated with software engineer Valerii to build sci2sci. At sci2sci, we are building an electronic lab notebook and a publishing platform in one interface. This will allow to store all experimental data and metadata in one place, and quickly release it in public access with one click. sci2sci will significantly facilitate research data publishing in its natively digital format, which will make research data easily available for analysis and synthesis by ML/AI.
